What is a Professional Installation for cbrs?

A Professional Installation for CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) refers to the certified setup and configuration of CBRS base stations or CBSDs (Citizens Broadband Service Devices) by trained professionals. This is required for certain types of CBSDs, particularly those with high power output or those installed outdoors, to ensure compliance with FCC regulations and avoid interference with other spectrum users.

Here’s what it typically involves:

  1. Certification: The installer must be a Certified Professional Installer (CPI), trained and certified to configure CBRS devices. CPIs ensure that the CBSDs are installed correctly and comply with regulatory requirements.

  2. Accurate Information Entry: The CPI must provide accurate data about the installation location, height, and radio parameters to the Spectrum Access System (SAS). This is critical for the SAS to manage spectrum allocation and avoid interference with higher-priority users (e.g., federal incumbents and Priority Access License holders).

  3. Proper Device Configuration: The professional installer configures the CBSDs to operate within the authorized frequency bands and power levels, ensuring compliance with FCC rules and optimal performance.

  4. Testing and Verification: After installation, the CPI typically tests the system to ensure it operates correctly and without causing interference.

  5. Documentation: Installers may also be required to document the setup and submit this to the SAS, confirming that the CBSD is compliant and ready for use.

Not all CBSDs require professional installation; low-power indoor devices (Category A CBSDs) can often be self-installed. However, outdoor or high-power devices (Category B CBSDs) typically do require a certified professional to handle installation and registration.
